A LIFE IN PHOTOGRAPHY

My career as a photographer

My career started as a photographer started when I was fifteen working at the local wedding and portrait studios. I progressed to local newspapers at the age of seventeen and within a year I was freelancing at the Evening News in Fleet Street. This was the beginning of the 80’s and as a young and ambitious photographer it wasn’t long before I was chasing celebrities: this led to me joining a fledgling agency called Rex Features as their royal photographer. I spent the next ten years travelling the world photographing every member of the British royal family. My reputation as a celebrity photographer was picked up by the growing number of colour magazines who then asked me to photograph well know actors, musicians, and celebrities. This led to me working on numerous films as either a unit photographer, whilst shooting their PR and promotional pictures.

This experience hugely benefitted the next stage in my career when I joined a beauty and haircare brand later owned by Unilever as their digital production image director. I worked as a staffer for nearly 20 years. In 2019, I decided to make a career change as I wanted to return to a more hands on creative environment and I am now back working as a photographer and videographer.
